Fast-Jet Stream Flashcards
Where does AFT for Fast Jets take place?
RAF Valley in Anglesy
in which order do pilots go through the squadrons at RAF Anglesy?
72 Squadron (BFT) 25 Sqn (AFT) and 4 Sqn (AFT)
what does BFjT stand for and which squadron carries out this role?
Basic Fast Jet Training, undertaken by 72 Squadron with the Texan T. Mk1
What does AFjT stand for and which squadrons carry out this role?
Advanced Fast Jet Training, with pilots going through 25 Squadron and then 4 Squadron
when do pilots in the fast-jet stream obtain their pilots wings?
following successful completion of BFT on the Texan
what do pilots do with the Texan at 72 Squadron
begin with a ground school to learn about the specifics of the airframe and the technical aspects of the equipment within
spend time in simulators preparing for any variety of scenarios
moving on to flying the Texan, getting used to the higher performance and aerobatic capabilities of the Texan
this consists of a general handling phase (take-offs, landings, circuits)
moving into instrument flying
mid-level flying, working on stalls, spins, recoveries and beginnings of 1v1 combat, building up G-Tolerance
low-level navigation as well as simulated ground attack profiles with strafing runs and bomb drops
formation flying, both close formation and tactical formation which again feeds into th beginnings of air combat training.
combined into a single sortie at the end of time with 72 Squadron where a flight with a wingman tests all of these parameters.
how much training (across all streams) is spent in synthetic environments (simulators) rather than the air?
70% airborne 30% synthetic
where do pilots go after their time with 72 Squadron
25 Squadron
how do pilots spend their time at 25 Sqdn
doing AFjT with the Hawk T. Mk 2 and getting used to the increase in performance from the Texan and how to deal mentally and physically with this
short conversion phase from Texan (Simulator work, practising stalls/spins/all-weather flying/MPM)
general handling phase, landings take-offs and circuits
moving onto MPM (Maximum Performance Maneuvers)
and then BFM (Basic Fighter Manoeuvres)
what does BFM stand for?
Basic Fighter Manoeuvres
What does MPM stand for?
Maximum Performance Manoeuvres
Where do pilots go after graduating 25 Squadron?
Move onto 4 Squadron
how do pilots spend their time at 4 Sqdn?
vast majority of time in tactical weapons phase
Learning to use Radar (synthetic radar) to perform tactical intercepts
ACM (advanced combat manoeuvres)
Flying with a wingman and 2V1 Intercepts
Synthetic Air-to-Surface Profiles
strafing and bomb drops (e.g. paveway)
couple of sorties that culminate the AFjT Course bringing together all of these facets of learning
if successful moving onto OCUs
which phase of AFjT is dealt with at 4 Sqdn?
Tactical Weapons Phase
to which school do 72, 25 and 4 Squadrons report?
No. 4 Flying Training School
