Pharynx Flashcards

1
Q

Pharyngeal tonsil

A

located in the pharyngeal recess
adenoids-enlarged inflamed pharyngeal tonsils
can obstruct nasopharynx, can spread to tubal tonsils impairing hearing and can ever spread to middle ear causing otitis media

A

fold of mucosa over palatoglosssus is the arch

from soft palate to tongue

Q

piriform recess

A

depression lateral to larynx
internal laryngeal n. runs deep to mucosa of the piriform recess

**if a swallowed object damages the mucosa of the piriform recess it can damage the internal laryngeal n. (think fish bones)

18
Q

Gap 1

A

bw base of skull and sup constrictor

allows for passage of levator veli palatini and auditory tube

19
Q

Gap 2

A

bw superior and middle constrictors

allows for passage of stylopharyngeus and glossophayngeal n.

20
Q

gap 3

A

bw middle and inf constrictors

allows for passage of internal laryngeal n. and superior laryngeal a.

21
Q

gap 4

A

bw inf constrictor and esophagus

allows for passage of inf (recurrent) laryngeal n. and a.

22
Q

pharyngeal n. plexus

A

SVE of vagus n. (except SP)
GVA of IX
SNS fibers from cervical chain
***Gag reflex (in by IX (GVA) and out by X (SVE))
