Pharmocology Flashcards
Hypersensitivity
Sensitized reaction to a medication regardless of dosing
Idiosyncrasy
Unexpected and usually individual reaction to a drug
Adverse reactions
Unintentional, undesirable effects of a drug
Antagonism
Interaction between two drugs in which one inhibits the action of the other.
Synergistic effect
Increased intensity in the effect of drug, when given in combination with another.
Anxiolytics
Used to reduce anxiety
Cardiac glycosides
drugs used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia.
Digoxin
increase cardiac output by increasing the force of contraction.
Increases automaticity due to increased intracellular calcium.
Signs of digoxin toxicity
- Nausea,vomiting, diarrhea, blurred vision
- fatigue, confusion, dizziness, delirium
- bradycardia
- prolonged pr interval
- “scooped out” st segment
- accelerated junctional rhythm
- Vtach
- hypokalemia
SVT with slow ventricular response,
“Atrial tachycardia with 2nd degree block with frequent pvc’s.”
parenteral
route other than the mouth.
antiemetic
effective against nausea and vomiting.
