Drug Classes Flashcards
Albuterol
Sympathetic Agonist
Sympathomimetic bronchodilator selective direct acting B2 agonist
Bronchial Asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, allergic bronchospasm
Adenosine
Anti arrhythmic
Slows AV conduction
Ind: symptomatic PSVT, incl. Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome
Amiodarone
Anti arrhythmic
Slows action potential and refractory rate, slows sinus rate, increases PR and QT intervals. Decreases peripheral vascular resistance.
Ind: Vtach and Vfib
Aspirin
Platelet aggregate inhibitor Analgesic NSAID Antipyretic Salicylate
Anti inflammatory, blocks platelet function
Atropine
Anticholinergic, antimuscarinic, parasympatholytic
Decreases vagal tone resulting in positive chronotropic effect. Increases AV conduction.
Competitive antagonist for acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors.
Bronchodialates via parasympatholytic mechanism.
Ind: hemodynamically significant bradycardia. Cholinergic poisoning.
Diphenhydramine
Antihistamine (with anticholinergic and sedative effects)
Prevents (does not reverse) histamine mediated response (particularly on the smooth muscles of the airway, GI tract, uterus, and blood vessels)
Calcium Chloride
Electrolyte
Increases cardiac contractility
May increase or decrease vascular resistance
Cardizem
Calcium channel blocker
Slows conduction through AV node
Causes vasodilation
Naloxone
opioid antagonist
Half life of 30-80 minutes (average 60)
