Technician trainee registration
Valid for 2 years and is not renewable
Requires passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam
Renewal requires 20 hours of CE every 2 years including 1 hour of law
Class A Pharmacy Ratio
1: 4 as long as one technician is certified
1: 3 technician trainees
Class C Pharmacy Ratio
There are no ratios
Immunization and Vaccination Requirements
Requires a written protocol
May only be given at a pharmacy or location provided by the protocol
Pharmacist certification requires ACPE approved course + other requirements
Notification requirements
What ages can you give immunizations?***
Services to patients under 14 years old may be provided only if referred by a physician except influenza vaccination can be given to 7 years and older

Basic cardiac life support Certification
20 hours of CDC training
3 hours of CE every 2 years related to disease states, drugs, and administration of immunizations or vaccines
Notification for Immunizations
Pharmacist must notify physician who issued the protocol within 24 hours of administration
AND
Primary care physician of the patient must be notified within 14 days of administration
Drug Therapy Management Under Protocol
Pharmacist may perform drug therapy management as authorized by a physician under a written protocol
What drug therapy managements may be included?
- Collecting and reviewing patient drug use history
- Ordering or preforming routine drug therapy related patient assessment procedures (temp, pulse, respiration)
- Implementing or modifying drug therapy following diagnosis, initial patient assessment, and ordering of drug therapy got a physician
- Signing a prescription drug order for a dangerous drug if: following diagnosis, initial patient assessment, and ordering of drug therapy got a physician AND pharmacist practices in a hospital, hospital-based clinic, or an academic health care institution AND it has bylaws and medical staff policy that permits a physician to delegate to a pharmacist the management of drug therapy
Written Protocol
Must identify supervising physician and pharmacist authorized
Must identify types of DTM decisions pharmacist is authorized to make
Must state activities pharmacist shall follow in performing DTM
Must state mechanism and time schedule for pharmacist to report to physician
DTM Notification and CE Requirements
Must notify TSBP prior to engaging in DTM
Must complete at least 6 hours of CE annually related to drug therapy
Supervision of a DTM
Physician must review protocol and any deviations annually
Physician must have physician-patient relationship with each patient
Physician must be GEOGRAPHICALLY located to be physically present if necessary daily
Physician must receive periodic status reports on a schedule defined in the protocol
Physician must be available through telecommunication for consultation
How many physicians can a pharmacist perform drug therapy for?
No limit to the number either way
DTM Records
Must be kept for 2 years
Must keep a copy of the written protocol and any patient specific deviations
Must document all interventions
Protocol must reviewed annually
