What is the duty of the GPhC?
Protect, promote and maintain health, safety and well being of public. In particular, services of registrants or services provided at a registered pharmacy
GPhC principal functions:
a) establish and maintain REGISTER OF PHARMACIST, TECHS, AND PREMISES
b) set and promote STANDARDS FOR THE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE PRACTICE of pharmacy at REGISTERED PHARMACIES
c) set REQUIREMENTS by which individuals fitness to practice is not impaired
d) promote SAFE AND EFFECTIVE PRACTICE OF PHARMACY
e) set STANDARDS in respect to EDUCATION, TRAINING, ACQUISITION OF EXPERIENCE AND CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
f) to ensure CONTINUED FITNESS TO PRACTICE

EEA national with EEA pharmacist qualification
Overseas pharmacist or non-EEA national with EEA pharmacy qualification (must do OSPAPS course in this case)
How long does registration last?
1 year (must renew every year!)
When can GPhC remove a register?
May remove if:
- concern over FITNESS TO PRACTICE
- registrant NOT INFORMED of problem before applying
What is indemnity?
Where one party is responsible for the other party. Registrant MUST have appropriate indemnity insurance.
