Intern lisence/registration required?
Limited intern permit (lasts 5 years)
must be displayed conspicuously in the pharmacy
interns may perform all functions of pharmacists under supervision
Requirements to apply for intern permit?
must be enrolled in pharmacy education and have completed P1 year
OR
be a graduate of a non-accredited program (including foreign) looking to complete the 12 month internship required for licensure

Preceptor requirements
must have practiced for at least 1 year prior to precepting
each preceptor may only have 1 full-time intern & 2 part-time interns
Intern permit renewal period
permit is good for 5 years
may renew once for up to 2 years

duplicate copies of a permit
not legal documents, only 1 original permit is allowed per person
Pharmacy tech minimum age
18 years
Pharmacy tech registration/licensure requirements?
do not need to be licensed or registered with the BOP

Activities non-certified technicians can perform
1.) receive written prescriptions
2.) receive e-prescription (with pharmacist or interns review)
3.) Type RX labels and other order entry tasks
4.) Get drugs to and from stock
5.) Get Rx files and other manual records from storage
6.) Count dosage units of drugs and place them into appropriate containers
7.) label Rx containers
8.) prepare manual records of dispensing for the signature or initials of the pharmacist
9.) hand or deliver meds to the patient or caregiver once counseling has been offered by the pharmacist or pharmacy intern
Unlicensed persons (pharmacy techs) may NOT
1.) receive oral prescriptions from prescribers
2.) interpret and evaluate a Rx for conformance with legal requirements, authenticity, accuracy, & interaction of the prescribed drug with other known prescribed drugs
3.) make determinations of therapeutic equivalency
4.) measure, weigh, compound, or mix ingredients or engage or assist in compounding
5.) sign or initial any record of dispensing required to be maintained by law
6.) counsel patients
7.) perform any other function involving professional judgement
