Pharmacovigilance and pharmacogenetics Flashcards
1
Q
Aim of pharmacovigilance
A
Identify and quantify incidence of post marketing ADRs and to actively respond to safety issues
2
Q
Types of adverse drug reactions
A
A: causally related to pharmacology (80%), predictable, lower severity
B: unrelated to known pharmacology (20%), unpredictable, severity not related to dose, need gene present
3
Q
Example of type A/B ADRs
A
A: polymorphism in CYP2D6 whereby codeine leads to morphine overdose
B: antimalarials inducing haemolytic anaemia in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
4
Q
What is pharmacogenetics
A
Understanding how individual genotypes relate to different drugs
