Anti-virals Flashcards

1
Q

Process of viral replication

A

Virus binds to cell and is absorbed via haemagglutinin
Virus is endocytosed and viral membrane fuses with endosome membrane in an ATP and pH dependent process
Viral RNA synthesis occurs, virus assembled in host cell
Virus released by budding and neuraminidase prevents adhesion after virus release

Q

What drugs classes treat influenza and how do they work

A

M2 ion channel blockers (rimantidine) prevent protons entering endosome so there is no viral uncoating within the endosome

Neuraminidase inhibitors (oseltamivir) prevent virus from budding rom host cell
