Pharmacology - Antivirals Flashcards
Aciclovir
DNA polymerase inhibitor. aciclovir triphosphate competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase
Amantadine
Viral ion channel disruptor. Can also be used in Parkinson’s disease.
inhibits ion channel which is needed to uncoat the virus once it’s inside the cell.
Amprenavir
Protease Inhibitor. used to treat HIV-1.
Zidovudine
Thymidine analogue. Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) used to treat HIV-1. inhibits reverse transcriptase
Doravirine, nevirapine, efavirenz, etravirine, rilpivirine
non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Alter reverse transcriptase
Enfuvirtide
fusion inhibitor. blocks HIV from entering CD4 cells
What types of drugs usually make up an HIV drug regimen?
2 nucloside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) and either an NNRTI or PI.
What does HAART stand for?
Highly active anti-retroviral therapy
What types of drugs are used in PEP ?
2 NRTIs and a PI
What types of drugs are used in PrEP?
2 NRTIs
