  • coverage
A
  • Zithromax, Z-pak
  • Macrolide
  • Inhibits RNA-dependent protein synthesis at the chain elongation step; binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit resulting in blockage of transpeptidation
  • COPD exacerbations, infectious diarrhea, Pneumonia CAP, Chlamydia, Strep pharyngitis (alt for PCN)

Q

Augmentin

  • generic name
  • category
  • MOA
  • indications
  • coverage
A
  • Amoxicillin/clavulanate
  • Penicillin/beta-lactamase inhibitor
  • Clavulanic acid binds and inhibits beta-lactamases that inactivate amoxicillin resulting in amoxicillin having an expanded spectrum of activity. Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial wall synthesis, leading to lysis.
  • Bite wound, COPD exacerbations, Diabetic foot infxn, Odontogenic infxn, Peritonsillar infxn, Otitis media, Strep pharyngitis (chronic carriage)
  • (+)gram+, (+)gram-, (+)anaerobe, (-)pseudomonas, (-)MRSA, (-)atypical bacteria
