Pharmacology Flashcards
Pharmacokinetics
the study on how the body interacts with the substance for the entire duration of exposure
the whole process the drugs that goes through the body
Pharmacodynamics
biochemical, physiologic, molecular effects and actions (mechanisms) of the drugs
dose
the amount of substance, measured in milligrams (mg)
Effective Dose (EG)
the minimal does effective to the human body
measured 50-985 of the population
Lethal Dose (LD)
the minimal dose of drug that causes death
Therapeutic Index (TI)
TI = LD / ED, indicates the margin of safety
Acute Toxicity
adverse toxic effect occurring oral/dermal administration of a single dose
Chronic Toxicity
repeated exposure to a harmful substance of a life-span
Side Effect
unwanted secondary effect of a drug
Tolerance
the capacity to endure subjection to the drug, there are different levels of tolerance for each drug
more usage -> higher the tolerance
Withdrawal
the effects produces when the drug is no longer consumed
Craving
the mental and physical desire for the drug
