Pharmacological Management Flashcards
Beta blockers
Decrease myocardial oxygen demand by decreasing HR and contractility
Indications: hypertension, angina, arrhythmias, CHF, migraines
HR and BP response to exercise will be diminished
Orthostatic hypotension, bradycardiao
“olol”
Calcium channel blockers
Diminished myocardial contraction, vasodilation, decreased oxygen demand of the heart
Indications: hypertension, angina, arrhythmias, CHF
HR, BP response to exercise will be diminished
Monitor for orthostatic hypotension and symptoms of CHF
“pine”
Diuretics
Increased excretion of sodium and urine
Decreases BP
Indications: hypertension, edema with CHF, pulmonary edema, glaucoma
Increased risk of falling d/t dizziness & decreased BP
ACE inhibitors
Decrease BP and afterload
Indications: hypertension, congestive heart failure
Risk of hypotension
“pril”
