Pharmacodynamics 1 Flashcards
What is Drug action
Drug action refers to the mechanism with which a drug produce desirable or undesirable effect in the body
Types of drug action
CRIDS
S- stimulation
D- depression
I- irritation
R- replacement
C- cytotoxic
Stimulation meaning
Selective enhancement of specific activity done by a specialized cells e.g adrenaline in cardiac cells
Depression
Involves the selective diminution of specific activity done by a specialized cell
E.g Lisinopril for hypertension
Mechanism of drug action
Physical
Chemical
Biochemistry
Types of receptors
Ligand gated ion channels
G protein coupled receptor
Enzyme-linked receptors
Intercellular receptors
Drug receptor outcome
F- full agonist
A- antagonist
P- partial agonist
I- inverse agonist
What is a ligand
A ligand is any molecule which selectively binds itself to a particular receptor
Define Affinity
This can be defined as the strength of the reversible reaction between a drug and it’s receptor has measured by the dissociation constant
It is the affinity of one for the other
Define intrinsic activity
Capacity to induce a functional change in the receptor
