Pharm Derm Flashcards
Stratum corneum
flattened dead cells surrounded by lipids resists, water, chemicals, pathogens
Diaper dermatitis
contact dermatitis spares the folds of the legs
Diaper yeast
yeast infection involving the skin folds
Young skin features
absorb durgs more easily- risk for toxicity
Hexachlorophene
topical cleanser caused neurotoxicity and death from systemic absorption.
Thick skin does not have hair
palms, feet, fingertips
Transdermal
drug transported through the skin into systemic circulation
Avoid systemic asorption of topical agents
ergo do not apply on broken skin
To dry an oozing/weeping lesion
apply wet dressings to help evaporate the water
To moisten a lesion
trap moisture ith occlusive agent
Transdermal drug achievement
systemic concentrations due to controlled delivery, avoids first pass, best for small high lipid molecules- like estrogen. Use less for more effect.
Transdermal dosing
done by surface area covered. Delay in starting and turning off teh drug, as drug concentrates in the dermal layer.
Gel matrix patch
drug oozes out
medicated adhesive
drug does not ooze dispose off properly rick of toxicity
vehicles that enhance drying
used for wet weeping lesions enhance evaporation and dry skin
