Side effects of Meclizine Hydrochloride
Anticholinergic
treats motion sickness, nausea, and procedural sedation
transdermal patch (1 mg): apply to area that has no hair
Scopolamine
- dry mouth
- dizziness
- drowsiness
- headache
- blurred vision
- orthostatic hypotension
- constipation
side effects of Scopolamine
Antiemetic/Phenothiazine
treats nausea and vomiting
high alert med if given IV
AVOID alcohol and other sedatives!!
Promethazine
- dry mouth
- NMS (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome)
- affects everything associated w/ CNS
- EPS: causes spasms, contractions, restlessness

Serotonin-Receptor Antagonist
Treats nausea and vomiting
Given PO or IV
Ondansetron
- drowsiness
- dizziness
- urine retention
- constipation
- headache
- hypotension
- fatigue
side effects of Ondansetron
Antiemetic
Used for Nausea and vomiting
NEVER be used w/ alcohol
Cannot be given if patient has GI obstruction, Hemorrhage, or Perforation
Metoclopramide Hydrochloride
- headache
- dizziness
- visual disturbances
side effects of Metoclopramide Hydrochloride
Used to induce vomiting
Emetics
Opiate Antidiarrheal
Cannot give w/ glaucoma, under 2, C.Diff, severe hepatic disease, alcohol or other CNS disorders
Diphenoxylate w/ Atropine
- dry mouth
- urine retention
- euphoria
- angioedema
- respiratory depression
side effects of Diphenoxylate w/ Atropine
- Constipation
- urinary retention
- dizziness
side effects of Loperamide
Antidiarrheal
Do NOT take w/ liver problems
