Malaria

Primaquine adverse effects?
- severe hypotension
- intravascular hemolysis
- do NOT use during first trimester
Quinine and quinidine general picture?
- active against erythrocytic stage of malaria
- low therapeutic window + hypoglycemia & hypotension
Mefloquine target organism and side effects?
Chloroquine resistant strains of P. falciparum
- contraindicated in epileptics and mentally ill due to CNS involvement

inhibits dihydrofolate reductase in Plasmodia at lower concentrations than in mammalian cells.
