He creates a post-modern aesthetic by using mise-en-scene to create intertextual references and to pay homage to a wealth of pop culture. His attention to detail in costume, props and décor creates a sense of style that is typical of postmodernity.
What does the Jack Rabbit Slims sequence open with?
Opens with a fluid tracking shot that moves around the dining hall. The decor is full of movie and music references such as the Douglas Sirk Steak, and film posters from the 1950s such as Dragstrip Girl, Machine Gun Kelly and Attack of the 50ft Woman.

The dance scene in Goddard’s (French New Wave director) movie ‘Band A Part’, which is also the name of Tarantino’s production company ‘A Band Apart’ - they both draw attention to the construction of the films creating distancing. Both have simple dances, with retro music overtop, intimacy implied and shows the dance.
