Q

How does the editing contribute to the narrative of the film?

A

The highly sophisticated editing allows the non-linear narrative structure to be formed. The film is edited into 3 independent stories, however they are all interwoven and connected via the characters and props - portmanteau structure.

Q

What editing technique is used in the Return to Apartment Sequence?

A

The prolonged tracking shot of Butch in an over the shoulder shot is typical of his auteur style to help immerse the spectator. Tarantino does not break continuity allowing tension to build throughout the scene - very mainstream

Q

How does the editing being, for the most part, unnoticeable, have an effect?

A

This allows the scene to generate a sense of flow which is enhanced by a lack of transitions other than straight cuts. This immersive style creates realism, allowing them to travel alongside Butch.

A

Tarantino uses a montage alongside slow motion editing together with close up shots to glamourise Vincent’s experience and communicate the euphoria of his high. The techniques captures Vincent as he appears to float, as if in a dream. The surrealism is further enhance with the unrealistic background protection
