Q

what is the differential diagnosis of meniscal pathology?

A
  • onset of effusion
  • torsional factors
  • mechanical symptoms
  • tibiofemoral joint line tenderness
  • mcmurray/appley compression/thessaly test
  • need a mechanism to tear meniscus in young individuals
  • older could have degenerative issues

Q

what is the differential diagnosis for patellofemoral pathology?

A
  • minimal or no effusion
  • repetitive use
  • patellofem joint tenderness
  • infrapatellar fat pad tenderness
  • few reliable and valid special tests

Q

what is the plica?

A
  • synovial thickening present in ~50% of population
  • synovial fold can be present medial or lateral and frequently courses up over patella
  • medial aspect most common site of pain
  • may occur w overuse or trauma
  • snapping or popping around patella
  • often with deep KF activites like a catcher

Q

explain PFP with movement coordination deficits

A
  • result in an increased dybamic Q angle by: moving patella medially with respect to ASIS and/or tibial tuberosity
  • increases torsion force and stress across all structures of patellofemoral joint

6
Q

explain PFP with muscle performance deficits

A
  • lower isometric strength
  • hip adbuction (26% less)
  • ER 36% less
  • differences for strength were greatest for extension

Q

explain PFP with strength and movement coordination

A
  • hip ER strength: eccentrically controls femoral IR in WB
  • hip adbuction strength: controls fem adduction in WB
  • weakness in hip ER or ABD strength may lead to increased femoral IR and ADD
