Pest Biology Flashcards
Pest Biology Outline
Generally speaking, arthropod, plant, and pathogen pest species pose strong dispersal abilities and populations can increase rapidly.
Also arthropods and pathogens often have strong host finding abilities.
- )Pesticide Resistance
- )Pest Resurgence
- ) Secondary Pest Outbreak
Resistance
Overuse of pesticides can lead to entire populations of pest species to gain resistance over short time spans.
Resurgence
When a pests natural enemies are wiped out due to pesticide applications.
Initially pest population declines, however rebounds, usually to high numbers, due to the absence of natural predators.
Secondary
Occurs alongside resurgence, where a previously innocuous pest population erupts following a pesticide application, once again due to the lack of predatory presence.
