What are some Persuasive Device?
Rhetorical Questions, Analogy, Hyperbole, Imagery & Figurative Language, Alliteration, Assonance and Connotations.
What are “Rhetorical Questions” and it’s effect?
Questions that do not require and answer. They engage the audience and encourage them to consider the issue and accept the author’s answer, or imply that the answer is so obvious that anyone who disagrees is foolish.
What are “Analogy” and it’s effect?
is a form of reasoning which compares one thing with another in order to make a particular point.
What are “Hyperbole” and it’s effect?
Emphasizes points by exaggerating. lt can be used to mock opposing opinions, as a shock tactics technique, or an appeal to fears.
What are “Imagery & Figurative Language” and it’s effect?
Paint a word picture for audience, making the point visually and by comparison, or appeal to emotions. They can also make the author appear sophisticated or well spoken.
What are “Connotations” and it’s effect?
Is the emotional meaning associated with the word.
Persuasive authors often choose their words carefully so that the connotation suits their purpose.
What are “Alliteration” and it’s effect?
The repetition of initial consonant sounds. Adds emphasis to major points and makes them
more memorable.
What are “Assonance “ and it’s effect?
The repetition of initial vowel sounds. Adds emphasis to major points and makes them
more memorable.
