What are some literary devices?
Repetition, Apostrophe, Fragmented Sentences, Hyperbole, Imagery, Similes , Cliche and anthropomorphism.
What is “Repetition” and it’s effect?
When a word, phrase or statement is repeated several times to emphasise and develop a certain idea. Helps to emphasize a point and make a speech easier to follow.
What is “Apostrophe” and it’s effect?
Apostrophe refers to a speech or address to a person who is not present or to a personified object. To personify or bring to life something not living.
What is “Fragmented Sentences” and it’s effect?
A sentence that is missing either its subject or its main verb. Confuse your reader or make your writing sound choppy. It also makes the reader want to read more because they want look for an answer.
What is “Hyperbole” and it’s effect?
An overstatement or exaggeration. Used to emphasize the magnitude of something through exaggerated comparison
What is “Imagery” and it’s effect?
Writing can aim at a reader’s sense of taste, smell, touch, hearing, or sight through vivid descriptions. Helping readers get a clearer sense of what they’re reading
What is “Similes” and it’s effect?
Comparing something to another thing through the use of “like” or “as”. Provides the reader with a more descriptive image of the thing that is being described
What is “Cliche” and it’s effect?
A saying, image, or idea which has been used so much that it sounds terribly uncreative. Conveying a point that the reader may be able to relate to.
What is “anthropomorphism” and it’s effect?
Attributes human characteristics to non-human entities, like animals and plants, or inanimate objects, like stars or machines. Creates emotional connection when we notice human qualities in a non-human subject.
