Outline two different theories of personality

A

Social learning theory- born as a blank canvas and social growth shapes, personality through real life experiences/role
- principle is we learn our personalities through two types of experiences
1. Modelling
2. Reinforcement.
People we copy are known as models (Bandura)
Trait theory- it suggest an individuals personality is inherited from their parents and they’re born with them.
- They remain stable through our lifetime and behaviour and personality can be predicted from traits

Outline any three components of Hollanders personality structure

A
  1. Inner psychological core- reflects the fairly permanent traits. It includes beliefs, values, attitudes and self-concept morals.
    - Internal and consistent personality
  2. Middle layer.- typical responses, learned methods of dealing with their environment
  3. Outer layer- role related behaviour- roles and individual undertakes will produce different behavioural responses
    - not a valid indicator of the psychological core
