What is a personality disorder?
A pattern of thought, emotion and behaviour, stable through time and space, that causes distress and is different to that person’s culture/not explained by other condition
Which areas are affected by personality disorders?

What qualities do cluster A personality disorders have?
MAD: odd and eccentric
Which 3 subtypes of cluster A exist?
Paranoid Schizoid Schizotypal
Describe someone with a paranoid PD
a person who believes in conspiracy theories. Exhibits distrust and suspiciousness. they overreact to perceived slights and bear grudges.
Describe someone with schizoid PD
“willy wonka” loner, can’t express emotion, few things give them pleasure, rich imagination
Describe someone with schizotypal PD
Odd beliefs, behaviour and speech. Ideas of reference, unusual perceptions and paranoia.
What qualities do cluster B personality disorders have?
BAD: dramatic and emotional
Which subtypes of cluster B exist?
antisocial
borderline
histrionic
narcisistic
Describe someone with antisocial PD
superficially charming person who is deceitful, irritable and aggressive. They are reckless and disregard others.
Describe someone with borderline PD
unstable person (in terms of relationships, self-image and emotion) who is impulsive and angry. Fear abandonment. Can have paranoid/severe dissociation at times.
Describe someone with histrionic PD
sexually inappropriate, attention-seeking, shallow, suggestible
Describe someone with narcissistic PD
grandiose sense of self-importance, envious, arrogant, entitled, takes advantage of others
What qualities do cluster C personality disorders have?
SAD: anxious and avoidant

avoidant dependent obsessive-compulsive
