The Big Five
O openness to experience C conscientiousness E extraversion A agreeableness N neuroticism
Locus of Control
your belief about the amount of control you have over your life.
External locus of control- you think what happens in your life is mainly due to luck or other forces. Ex: Bad grade, teacher doesn’t like me
Internal locus of control- you think you largely determine what happens in your life
Ex: Bad grade, didn’t study enough
Introversion
a person whose interest is generally directed inward toward his own feelings and thoughts. Introverts tend to be more quiet, reserved, and introspective. Enjoy understanding details, keep emotions private, social around people they know well, and learn well through observation.
Susan Cain
Author of the book “Quiet”. It argues American culture tends to value extroversion rather than introversion.
Brian Little
Professor; was extremely extroverted in class; introvert in the rest of his life; said personality is situational. He says, your well being depends on how well you balance work and social life.
“restorative niche”
Susan Cain said, “Restorative niche’ is Professor Little’s term for the place you go when you want to return to your true self. It can be a physical place, like the path beside the Richelieu River, or a temporal one, like the quiet breaks you plan between sales calls.” For introverts this means going to a place where you can be by yourself, away from stimulation of being with other people.
