Define Personality
The characteristic ways in which someone thinks, feels and behaves
State the three personality theories
Trait, humanistic, social cognitive
State the main beliefs of trait theory
-That personality is dictated by fixed traits which are stable over a person’s life
-that the traits have a genetic factor
State the main beliefs of humanistic theory
-that people are born good and are motivated to reach their full potential
-that people have the free will to choose their destiny and overcome life and circumstances
State the main beliefs of social cognitive theory
-emphasises that behaviour occurs in a context and that personality isn’t the only factor
-that people learn by watching
(Can be seen as synthesis of humanistic and trait theory)
