Ages 0-1 (Erikson)
-Trust vs mistrust
-“Can I trust the world?”
-Need constant attention and care
Ages 1-3 (Erikson)
-autonomy vs shame and doubt
-“can I do things myself or must I rely on others?”
-develop a sense of self reliance
Ages 3-5 (Erikson)
-Initiative vs guilt
-“is it ok for me to do things?”
-encourage initiative and freedom in asking questions a play, if too severely criticised they may form feelings of guilt
Ages 6-12 (Erikson)
-industry vs inferiority
-“how can I be good?”
-the development of competence and skills, if the individual is not encouraged they begin to feel inferior
Ages 12-18 (Erikson)
-identity vs role confusion
-“who am I?”
-look at who they are and who they want to be, and if failing to do so they may become isolated or conforming to a crowd identity
Ages 18-40 (Erikson)
-Intimacy vs isolation
-“can I love and be loved?”
-about creating strong and comfortable relationships where if failed can lead to isolation/lack of commitment
Ages 40-65 (Erikson)
-Generativity vs stagnation
-“what can I contribute to the world?”
-primarily about caring for others, giving back and establishing a career, also especially involving parenting. If failed it leads to selfishness and lack of interest in others
Ages 65-death (Erikson)
-integrity vs despair
-“was my life a good one?”
-if looking back and thinking the individuals life was good they are happy and content, if not they feel regret and wishing to go back and change their life
