A set of characteristics that can distinguish one person from another and can provide predictions about a persons behaviour
Stability ?
Consistency over time and in different situations
Nature vs Nurture
Nature is your genes
Nurture is the way you are raised and socialised
Social factors ?
Interactions with parents, siblings influence our personality and behaviour
Situational factors?
Specific situations or experiences play a role in the development of personality
Cattells trait theory:
Believed a distinction should be made between surface and source traits.
Surface traits: Observable through someone’s behaviour
Source traits: Fundamental building blocks of personality
Introverts/extroverts
Introverts: Quiet, like doing work on their own
Extroverts: Outgoing, like socialising

Measuring personality
Reliability: The extent to which a measure can be repeated
Validity: The extent to which a measurement tool measures what it is meant to measure
