Who is David Ben Gurion?
A
- immigrated to Palestine from Poland in 1906 and became head of Jewish agency in 1935.
- supportive of Herzl’s ideal and desire for a jewish homeland in Palestine.
- active Zionist
- cooperated with Britain during WW2, although resistent to British immigration White Papers and the British mandate, but saw only way to protect Jewish race during Hitler regime was to cooperate
- After war, led political struggle against British. Campaign succeeded in him being declared 1st PM of state of Israel

Who is Theodor Herzl?
A
- founder of modern zionism
- published pamphlet, ‘the jewish state’, expressing his views, advocating for Jewish homeland
- travelled throughout Europe gathering many to his cause.
- Became president of Zionist World Congress
- After death in 1904, many Jews still responded to his ideas and migrated back to biblical home, Palestine.
- He was willing to consider other sites than Palestine such as Uganda but his death effectively killed the Uganda scheme.
