Court of Wards, Customs farmers, plantations, forest fines, nuisances,– fiscal feudalism.

Alienated almost everyone. However, there was only protest in 1637, suggesting that the alienation was not all that serious.

Wentworth and Thorough

A

Increased settlement of Protestants in N. Ireland at the expense of the Native Irish and Old English. Fines. New Book of Rates and increased customs duties doubles revenue. Irish Parliament granted 10 subsidies in two sessions. Surplus funds were used to make an army (mainly Catholic) which didn’t help the fear of Wentworth (Strafford) in England.
