- Falls are the number one reason for death and injury among 65+ yr olds. >2m in the US went to the ER in 2010 because of a fall.
- Three main systems to help us stay balanced: visual system (eyes), proprioceptive system(sensory), vestibular system (inner ear).
- Vestibular system becomes less sensitive as people age.
- According to researchers at Simon Fraser University who studied 227 falls, 41% of them were caused by incorrect weight shifting.
