- largest human body organ

A

Nails
A
- grow from root of the nail bed
- surrounded by cuticles
- indicate health
- feet and nails require special care to prevent infection, order, and injury

A
- follow all appropriate protocols
- avoid cross-contamination
- moisturizer and skin protectant
- good oral hygiene prevents systemic illness

Patient - centered care
A
- accommodate patients preferences and culture when performing hygiene
- consider patient’s normal oral and bathing hygiene routines
- encourage patients to participate

Safety Guidelines
A
- always assess the environment for safety before administering hygiene care to a patient
- when not performing procedures, bed should be LOCKED and LOW with at least TWO bed rails up
- keep all person care items within the patient’s research

Recording and reporting
A
- record procedure, including amount of patient participation and how patient tolerated the procedure
- record and nurses’ notes the condition of the skin and any significant findings
- report evidence of alterations in skin integrity, a break in the suture line, or increased wound secretions
