Perodontium function Flashcards
what is the function of periodontium?
- attachment between tooth and bone
- resisting displacing forces
- for maintenance of tooth functional position
what periodontal cells do?
remodel bone and cementum
What are perio. mechano receptors for?
sensory input for jaw reflex activity
what happens when first load applied to tooth?
Elastic phase= rapid elastic intrusion
what happens when force applied over time?
Creep phase= slower but deeper intrusion
What is visco elastic phase?
biphasic response = elastic and creep phase
what happens when load is removed?
Elastic phase, slow extrusion follows
What happens to crest distance when load applied?
INCREASES so crests pushed apart
what is failure stress-strain?
point where it is non recoverable damage after load removed
What % does periodontal ligament strain fail?
20%
What is used to measure stress strain of oblique fibres?
(pig) tooth w/o bottom socket
how is the load dissipated?
by fluid flow within matrix and capillary bed
what happens to fluid flow when tooth intruded?
flow from bottom to blood spaces around bone
What does fluid flow increase?
fluid volume in crestal regions hence push them apart
What is stress strain of PDL similar too?
Foetal tendon than skin
