perming exam S1 Flashcards
Ø Know what the pH scale measures
The ph scale measures the acidity and alkalinity of a substance by measuring the number of hydrogen ions it contains
Know what reduction reaction is
A reduction reaction involves either the addition of hydrogen or the removal of oxygen. For permanent waving, there is an addition of hydrogen
Know which wrapping method produces a uniform curl
Spiral perm wrap
What happens if the hair is insufficiently blotted
the extra water int eh hair would dilute the nebulizer
List the 5 basic building blocks of hair
Amino acids Peptide bonds Polypeptide chains Keratin proteins Side bonds
Side bonds that cross-link polypeptide chains
Hydrogen bond
Salt bonds
Disulfide bond
List the 4 perms we learned this semester
Basic
Bricklay
Curvature
Weave technique
2 functions of neutralization
Any waving solution that remains in the hair is deactivated
Disulfide bonds that were broken by the waving solution are rebuilt
Why do male clients request perms
Adds more texture, fullness, style, and low maitnes that only a perm can provide
Benefits that perms provide for male clients
Makes thin hair look fuller, makes stright hair or corse hair more manageable and controls cow lickes
