Peritoneum and Peritoneal Cavity Flashcards
Male Peritoneal cavity
Closed with rectovesical pouch (R-B)
Female Peritoneal cavity
Open (STD trans) 2 pouches
What are the Female Peritoneum Pouches
- Vesicouterine (Dunns: B-U)
2. Rectouterine (Douglas: R-U)
What is Mesentery
2x lyr of peritoneum in midgut provides neurovasculature to abd viscera
What is Omentum
2x Mes provides attachment to wall and neurvasculature
Sites of Mesentery
Esophageus, gastrium, SI, appendix, T + S colon
Role of Omentum
Sequesters for immunology, 2 x - Greater (Left) and Lesser (Right)
Where is the Greater Omentum
- Gastrophrenic: Fundus - inf left Dia near cardiac orifice
- Gastrosplenic: Up great curve of sto - hilum of spleen
- Gastrocolic: low great curve of sto - T colon
- Splenorenal - Medial Spleen to convex kidney
What is function of Greater Omentum
Prevents adhesion btwn somatic and visceral peritoneum, allows peristalsis, sequesters bowel lesions, cushions, insulation
Where is the Lesser Omentum
- Hepatogastric: Liv - less curve sto
- Heptoduodenal: Liv - 1st duod (triad)
- Falciform Ligament: Liv - ant abd wall
- Round Ligament: Remnant Umb Vein
- Hepaticphrenic: liv - Right Dia
- Hepatoesophageal
What are divisions of Greater Sac
Divided by T mesocolon into Supracolic and Infracolic
Describe the Supracolic
Btwn Abd wall and visceral wall of gastrocolic ligament (G Omentum). Includes ant surface of T colon, Free comm with gutters. Cont Sto, Liv, Spl
Describe the Infracolic
Post visceral wall of G Omentum and Peritoneum on post parietal abd wall. Cont: SI, AD colon. Divided into RL infracolic and further into RL paracolic gutters and RL infracolic space
Path of gutters and infracolic space
- RL gutter: AD colon to lat parietal wall
2. RL infracolic space: AD colon to SI mes towards midline
Describe Omental Bursa
Sac like structure with capacity to accumulate fluid, pus, and blood. Borders are Heptatoduodenal ligament (A) IVC and R crus diaphragm (P) Liver (S) and Sup or 1st Duod (I).
