Peritoneal Cavity Flashcards
What kind of sac is the peritoneum
serous
is the peritoneum closed or open in males and females
Closed in males, open in females
Where are the parietal and visceral peritoneum located??
The parietal peritoneum lines the internal surface of the abdominopelvic wall. The visceral peritoneum invaginates to cover the majority of the abdominal viscera
What does the lesser sac communicate with the greater sac via?
epiploic foramen
What are the boundaries of the epiploic foramen
Caudate lobe superiorly and duodenum ( 1st inch) inferiorly
Posteriorly IVC and anteriorly portal triad
What are the three different fold of peritoneum and how do they differ
Omenta- peritoneal folds connect the stomach to other organs
Mesentery - peritoneal folds that connect the mobile parts of intestine to the posterior abdominal wall
Ligaments - Peritoneal fold that connect abdominal organs or to the abdominal wall
How many layers do the greater omentum and lesser omentum have
4 and 2 respectively
What does the greater omentum contain
Fat, connective tissue and lymphatics
Where is the portal triad loacted wrt to the omentum
In the FREE EDGE of omentum, hepatoduodenal ligament
What does the falciform ligament connect
Liver to the anterior abdominal wall
What is the heptaogastric ligament
Membranous portion of the lesser omentum
Where does the hepatoduodenal ligament connect
Liver to first part of the duodenum
Where does the gastrophrenic ligament connect
Stomach to inferior surface of diaphragm
Where does the gastrocolic ligament connect
stomach to transverse colon (apron-like part of the greater omentum)
What arteries supply the hepatic artery proper
common hepatic artery, coeliac trunk
What forms the bile duct
Common hepatic duct and cystic duct
Which part of the intestine does the bile duct secrete bile into
duodenum
What supracolic compartment
Stomach, liver, spleen
What separates the supracolic and infra colic compartment
The tranverse colon
What are the paracolic gutters
Depressions between ascending and descending colon and posterolateral abdominal wall
What is the subphrenic recess and is it part of the greater or lesser sac
The space below the diaphragm (anterior middle section) and above the liver
Greater sac
What is the hepatorenal recess
Between the liver and right kidney and suprarenal gland
Continuous with right subphrenic recess anteriorly
Where is the lesser sac wrt organs
Posterior to stomach and posteroinferior to liver
What does the greater omentum become
transverse mesocolon
