USB
Universal Serial Bus devices. Most common are 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1.
Drivers
Contains instructions for our CPU to understand external devices like keyboards and mice.
BIOS or Basic input output services
Software that helps initialize the hardware and gets our operating system up and running.
ROM
Read only memory chip. Store in motherboard. Where BIOS are kept. Won’t erase data when computer is turned off unlike RAM.
UEFI or Unified Extensible Firmware Interface
Performs same function of BIOS but it’s more modern and has better compatibility support for newer hardware.
POST or Power-on Self Test
A test to make sure all the hardware is working correctly and what hardware is on the computer. Tan before BIOs start. 1 beep good. 2 beeps bad.
CMOS chip
Stores basic data about boosting your computer like date, time, and how u want it to start up. Can be changed by u in settings.
Disk image
A copy of the operating system.
Reimaging
Involves wiping and reinstalling and operating system. Typically perform from some external device like a USB memory stick or CD-ROM or server accessible through the network.
