What are the key components to the introduction of the ORA?
1) Hand hygiene 2) Introduces self to client with name and proper designation (1st year BScN student) 3) Identify patient using two factors 4) Privacy and confidentiality 5) Provides plan for care/assessment details. 6) Gets consent 7) Considers patient comfort
What are key components to the closing of the ORA?
1) Closes interview with intention 2) Summarizes findings 3) Gives patient opportunity to ask questions and state any further information. 4) HAND HYGIENE!
What equipment is required for the peripheral vascular and lymphatic system ORA?
- Tape measure
What is the order of the physical examination for the peripheral vascular and lymphatics system?
1) Inspect arms for colour, size, any lesions 2) Palpate pulses: radial, brachial 3) Check epitrochlear node. 4) Inspect legs for colour, size, any lesions, trophic skin changes. 5) Palpate the skin for temperature of feet and legs. 6) Palpate inguinal nodes. 7) Palpate pulses in lower extremities: femoral, popliteal, posterior tibial, dorsalis pedis 8) Engage in teaching and health promotion as applicable
What health promotion is suitable for this assessment?
Foot health and ensuring that blood flow continues to the feet.
What positional considerations are there with this assessment?
Sitting while inspecting and palpating the arms, supine while assessing legs. Can inspect leg colour while patient is seated.
