Peripheral Nervous system+ Somatic Flashcards
Peripheral Nervous system
The peripheral nervous is made up of every neuron in the body outside of the central nervous system, it is further divided into two branches: the somatic, and autonomic nervous system
The peripheral nervous system functions to bring information from the rest of the body to the central nervous system, and to bring information about how to respond from the central nervous system to the rest of the body
Somatic nervous system
The somatic nervous system controls all voluntary movement and responses. It is a network of neurons within the body that transmits information from the receptor sites on the sense organs to the central nervous system and carries information from the central nervous system to the muscles that control movement
Motor neurons
Sensory neurons
Motor Neurons (afferent) -Neurons neurons that transmit messages from the brain (motor neural messages) To the skeletal muscles, giving instructions on how to move.
Sensory neurons ( afferent) - Are neurons that transmit information (sensory neural messages) about the body sensations (including touch, smell, sight etc ) to the brain so that it can co-ordinate a response
