The nervous system is divided into two main nervous systems. What are they?
Central nervous system and Peripheral Nervous System
What does the central nervous system control?
The brain and the spinal cord
What does the spinal cord connect?
the brain and peripheral nervous system
What does the peripheral nervous system do?
It carries messages to and from the CNS
What are the two nervous systems of the peripheral nervous system?
somatic and autonomic nervous systems
What does the somatic nervous system do?
controls voluntary muscles and transmits sensory information to the CNS
What does the autonomic nervous system do?
controls involuntary body functions
What are the two nervous systems of the autonomic nervous systems?
Sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous systems
What does the sympathetic nervous system do?
arouses the body to expend energy
What does the parasympathetic nervous system do?
calms the body to conserve and maintain energy
What does cutaneous mean?
Skin
