Starts at conception and continues through implantation in the uterine
wall by the embryo, and ends at birth.
Prenatal Development
Starts at birth and continues to two years of age
Infancy and Toddlerhood
Starts at two years of age until six years of age.
(AKA: the preschool years and consists of the years which follow toddlerhood and precede formal schooling)
Early Childhood
Starts at six years of age and continues until the onset of puberty
Middle and Late Childhood
Starts at the onset of puberty and until 18
(When an adolescent begins to think of new possibilities and consider abstract concepts like love, fear, and freedom).
Adolescence
Period of dramatic physical change marked by an overall growth spurt and sexual maturation during adolescence
Puberty
Starts at 18 and until 25
(Transitional time between the end of adolescence and before individuals acquire all benchmarks of adulthood)
Emerging Adulthood
Starts at 25 and until 40-45
(a person becomes concerned with intimate relationships, and establishing families, and work are primary concerns at this stage of life).
Early Adulthood
Starts at 40-45 until 65
(The point where people are at their peak of productivity in love and work).
Middle Adulthood
Starts at 65 and onward
(Young-old 65-84, and oldest-old who are 85 years and older. Although both groups are susceptible to disease and cancers the 65-84 are the healthiest)
