What is group 1 called? And why?
Alkali metals, and when they react with water they produce a higher pH as they produce an alkali.
Trend of reactivity in group 1:
As you go further down the group they get more reactive.
Trend in melting and boiling points in group 1?
The melting point decrease the further you go down the group.
Trend in hardness in group 1?
As you go down the group, the softer the metal.
Group 1 from top to bottom.

Why is group 1 more reactive as you go down the group?
As the further down the group you get, the further away the outer electron is from the nucleus. This means the force between the two is weaker. This means that less force is required to ionic bond with a non metal.
What are group 7 called?
The halogens.
What is the trend of reactivity in group 7?
As you do down the group they get less and less reactive.
What is the trend of density in group 7?
As you go down the group the elements get more and more dense.
What is the trend of melting and boiling points in group 7?
As you go down the group the elements have higher melting and boiling points.
How to test for chlorine?
With litmus paper, to see if it bleaches it.
What is the main use for halogens?
They kill bacteria.
Why are the top of group 7 the most reactive?
As the closer the outer shell with electrons are to the nucleus, the more likely the element is of attracting negative electrons as they have a higher force of attracted when they are close to the positive nucleus.
Group 8 is the same as:
Group 0.
What are group 8 and group 0.
The noble gases.

All not reactive !!

They get more dense as you go down the group.

As you go down the group the Elements have higher melting and boiling points.

What happens when alkali metals react with water?
They create a hydroxide (Alkaline) and hydrogen.
When halogens react with metals…
They produce an metal halide. These are ionic compounds.
Halogen displacements:
Where a more reactive halogen (nearer the top of the group) can displace a less reactive halogen from its compound.
