Periodic Table of Elements and Mole Concept Flashcards
Who made the periodic table and how did he arrange it?
Dimitri Mendeleev and the elements were arranged by their chemical properties.
The electronic configuration rules:
-When drawing the arrows in the boxes, the arrows go in opposite directions.
-The 4s box goes before the 3d box but it is written after.

C- Element
12.011-Atomic mass
How do you work out the number of protons, neutrons and electrons?
The number of protons and electrons are the same by looking at the atomic number. To work out the number of neutrons, you would do the atomic mass minus the atomic number.
How would you round each of these:

What are the 4 known states of matter?
- Solid
- Liquid
- Gas
- Plasma
What is the main difference in each of the matters?
The densities of the particles.
How do you work out the concentration (giving the units)?
concentration(mol/dm3)= moles (mol) /volume (dm3)
How do you convert cm3 to dm3?
You would divide by 1000
In the periodic table, there are groups. What does this mean?
They have the same number of electrons in the outer orbital for the same group.
Similarly, there are periods. What does this mean?
The period of the element relates to the number of shells of an atom of a given element.
How do we calculate the number of moles (giving the units)?
moles (mol)= mass (g)/ RMM
What does 1 mole of any gas occupy?
1 mole of any gas occupies 24dm3 (24000cm3) at RTP.
At STP (molar volume), what does 1 mole of gas occupy?
At STP, 1 mole of gas occupies a volume of 22.4L.
What is density?
Density of a substance is the mass of a unit amount of a substance.
