Q

Relationship between reduction and oxidation in reactions

A

If something is reduced it’s the oxidising agent

If something is oxidised it is the reducing agent

Q

What happens to the reactivity of group one metals as you go down the group?

A

As you go down the group, their reactions with water will become more vigorous and their reactions in air will be quicker.

This is because the elements have more electron shells as you do down. Because the electrons are further away from the nucleus this makes the element unstable and prone to reactions.

Q

How foul group 7 reactivity Chang going down the group?

A

Element get less reactive going down the group

This is because the amount of electron shells increases, meaning it is harder for the nucleus to pill electrons in and react

Shielding from inner electrons also make reacting harder
