22
Q

What are Atoms?

A

Atoms are the smallest unit that al substances can be broken down into.

23
Q

What are Molecules?

A

Molecules are 2 or more atoms with are chemically bonded together.

24
Q

What are Elements?

A

Elements are all of the atoms are the same type.

25
Q

What are Compounds?

A

Compounds are molecules made up of different types of atoms.

26
Q

Compounds features are…

A
  • Compounds are usually a metal and a non-metal.
  • We name them in 2 parts.
    1. The first part of the name is the name of the metal.
    2. The second part is the name of the non-metal BUT the ending changes to -ide. MgO- Magnesium oxIDE NaCl-sodium chlorIDE.
    3. Ift. the compound contains a metal, a non-metal AND oxygen, it’s name ends in -ate. LiNO₃- lithium nitrate CaSO₄- calthium sulfate.
27
Q

H₂O =

A

3 atoms, 2 elements.

28
