Q

Transition metals

A

Transition metals are the metals that are not in group 1 or group 2 because they don’t actually have a group they are in.

Q

Periodic table

A

The periodic table is the table which lists all of the single elements that we have discovered so far. This goes from metals all the way to gasses.

Q

Displacement reactions

A

A displacement reaction is when two elements are in a mixture together and another element which is higher on the reactivity series replaces the original element.
E.g lithium oxide + sodium would turn into sodium oxide + lithium.

Q

Metal ores

A

A metal ore is a object found in the earths crust that contains a metal plus something else for example when you find a copper in an ore it is copper plus oxygen and then you have to extract it to get pure copper

Q

Metals are extracted from ores using…

A

Metals are extracted from ores using heated carbon to melt put the metal but if the metal has a greater reaction than carbon than you have to use something else that will be able to replace that metal. Some metals like gold that are unreactive don’t come in an ore.
