what probe should be used to carry out a six point pocket chart ?
a PCP12 probe
- black bands at increments of 3mm up to 12mm
when performing a 6 point pocket chart, how should the probe be held?
the shank of the probe should run parallel to the long axis of the tooth
You are performing a 6ppc on a patient, outline the steps of the procedure:
- score out missing teeth
- record positon of gingival margin to ACJ at 6 points around tooth
- record depth of pocket at 6 points around tooth
- any BOP is noted
- tooth mobility is noted
- furcation involvement is noted
what does a grade 1 for tooth mobility mean?
<1mm of movement
what does a grade 2 score for tooth mobility mean?
1-2mm of tooth movement
what does a grade 3 score of tooth mobility mean?
> 2mm of tooth movement AND/OR rotation or depression
what does a furcation grade of 1 indicate?
up to 3mm horizontal attachment loss
what does a furcation grade of 2 indicate?
> 3mm of horizontal attachment loss but NOT through and through
what does a furcation grade of 3 indicate?
a through and through furcation lesion
what teeth are re modified plaque and bleeding scores carried out on?
Ramfjord’s teeth:
- 16, 21, 24, 36, 41, 44
When performing a modified plaque score, how are the teeth analysed?
Each Ramfjord tooth is split into 3 surfaces - interproximal - buccal - palatal/lingual score of 0-2 is given to each surface
what are the possible plaque scores and what do they show as?
0 = no plaque 1 = no visible plaque, presence of plaque on probing 2 = visible plaque
when performing a modified bleeding score, how are the teeth analysed?
- each Ramfjord tooth is split into 4 surfaces (mesial, distal, buccal, palatal/lingual)
- probe is run around gingival margin at 45º
- check for bleeding for up to 30 secs
give score of 0 or 1
what does a bleeding score of 0 indicate?
no bleeding present
what does a bleeding score of 1 indicate?
marginal bleeding present
