Perimeter, area and volume Flashcards

1
Q

Explain in words what the perimeter of a shape is?

Mathematically what operation are we using to find the perimeter?

A

It is the distance around a shape ie. it is the sum of all the lenghts of the sides of the shape.

Remember mathematically you are always adding lengths.

Q

Area is the amount of space within side a shape.

Mathematically what operation are we using to find the area of a shape?

A

Mathematically we are multiplying the sides (generally 2 sides) to find the area.

Q

What mathematical operation do you use to find the side a square if you are given its area?

A

Take the square root of its area.

Eg what is the side of a square if its area = 81cm2

l2 = 81

l =√81

l = 9cm
