perfusion Flashcards
what is perfusion?
process of delivering oxygenated blood to the tissues.
what is perfusion so important to health?
it is vital for cellular function and overall organ health
what is perfusion important for nursing?
it does ensure effective organ function and prevents concerns of ischaemia
what does the respiratory system ensure?
that there is adequate oxygenation
what does the respiratory system prevent the reduction of?
preventing reduced ventilation and/or gas exchange
the respiratory system : what should you consider if oxygenation is not manageable?
Consider oxygenation or ventilatory support if oxygenation not manageable via airway/respiratory manoeuvres.
mechanisms of perfusion: what is central perfusion?
Involves blood flow from the heart to the major organs. This is driven by cardiac output!!
mechanisms of perfusion: what is the peripheral perfusion?
Circulates blood from the arteries to peripheral tissues, ensuring oxygen and nutrient nourishment.
capillary exchange: what is it driven by?
filtration
capillary exchange: what is it
oxygen, nutrients and waste products between blood and tissues being exchanged with capillaries.
hydrostatic pressure: what is it?
“The pressure exerted by a fluid at equilibrium at any point of time due to the force of gravity”.
hydrostatic pressure: what can the fluid pressure be caused by?
Thefluid pressurecan be caused by gravity, acceleration or forces when in a closed container.
Oncotic pressure: what is it influenced by?
plasma proteins
oncotic pressure: why does it provide a pressure?
to prevent too much fluid leaking out of the capillaries
oncotic pressure: what also can produce an oncotic pressure?
salt’s and glucose.
